Category: Jobs and Employment
As of now, I have only held jobs in tutoring and personal care-giving. I will be pursuing my masters starting this summer and am looking for part-time general employment.
I have intentially steered clear of jobs in childcare and food services because of my personal experience with how sighted people tend to react to a blind person cooking and taking care of kids. In my personal life, I can shrug it off when people assume I can't cook or couldn't take care of a kid even though I can, but in the working world I know it's different; I need my employer to be comfortable and willing to train me. I read a post by someone on a list who has had good experience with childcare jobs, and it got me thinking. Have I been shortchanging my opportunities? Have yall had positive experiences with people hiring you for such jobs?
